Do’s and Don’ts for Kidney Patients During Corona Virus Pandemic

As we all know this Novel Corona Virus (COVID19) is a new virus with very limited experience and expertise all over the world. Till date there is no proven therapy. There is no vaccine to prevent it. So, we are at very high risk of getting infected.

Patients having high BP, Diabetes, Kidney disease, Liver disease, Pre-existing Respiratory disease, Cancers, Persons on immunosuppression and elderly are having high risk of getting infected as well as high risk of death due to Covid 19.

The Old saying “PREVENTION IS BETTER THAN CURE” has never been so true as in these testing times.

To prevent corona the common things that we should do are; -

  • Frequent hand washing with soap and water or using hand sanitizers.
  • Wearing a face mask whenever you are stepping out of home.
  • Social distancing as much as possible - STAY HOME, STAY SAFE
  • Avoidance of fomites (Nonliving carriers of virus like any material or food purchased from outside, lift buttons, door handles, mobile phones etc.) Disinfect them with sanitizers or Luke warm water frequently
  • Follow cough or sneeze etiquettes
  • Since Kidney Transplant patients are at high risk, they should practice the above measures as much as possible.

    • They should continue their immunosuppression medicines as prescribed by their Doctor.
    • Please stock your medicines for 3 to 4 weeks in advance.
    • Avoid any visit to the hospital as much as possible.
    • Take telephonic or e-consultation from your Doctor for small problems.
    • Do not ignore any new symptoms and consult your doctor immediately.
    • Consult your Doctor immediately if you have come in contact with any suspected or confirmed Corona positive patient.
    • For patients on Dialysis they should take their dialysis regularly and avoid emergency dialysis. Continue all your medicines as advised. Strictly follow the instructions given by the dialysis unit.
